Light up your life and love yourself.
We all need a little explosiveness and random act of self-love every now and again! We go about our day-to-day life, judging ourselves, pushing ourselves, harping on ourselves. Telling ourselves we need to work out more, work harder at work, do more around the house. The list of what we “should” do goes on and on. I encourage you all to stop “shoulding” on yourself. Instead, give yourself a pat on the back for all that you do accomplish each and every day! Give yourself some self praise, some self-love. Give yourself compassion. Your self-love can be infectious and by this positive energy that you can radiate, you can change those around you and change the world!
This is an area that I personally have struggled with over the past 30 years of my life. Yes, it usually starts when we are small children. Were we loved enough? Were we threatened with love? Meaning, only showed positive love and attention after doing something right or good. Did we lack unconditional love as children? Or…were we spoiled with love which has since made us as adults put too much pressure on ourselves, to be perfect, to strive for more…to do better. Whatever your case may be, I challenge you to increase your self compassion, as these little steps to self-love and self-care not only make you feel better, but those around you too!
I encourage you to:
- Accept compliments when given. Don’t come up with a rebuttal statement, simply say “Thank You” and nothing else.
- Don’t beat yourself up when things don’t go your way. Things do happen for a reason. Accept things as they come, go with the flow.
- Smile. Smile at a stranger you have eye contact with. Smile at yourself as you pass a mirror.
- Be open to others approaching you or starting conversation with you, whether it be in line at the grocery store, while working out at the gym or pumping gas. Open-heartedness for others can also fill your own soul and self with love and appreciation.
